Accommodation (university's description)
The cities of Erlangen, Fürth, and Nuremberg offer a very good standard of living. They are popular places to live, meaning that accommodation is in high demand but often in short supply. This is particularly the case during the period before the start of a new semester. We therefore recommend that you start looking for accommodation as soon as possible. If you are flexible and also look in the surrounding area, you will have a better chance of finding somewhere affordable to live. The region has an excellent public transport system, so you should not have any problems getting to your place of study or work. It is worth checking the available accommodation on the Internet every day, as new accommodation becomes available on a day-to-day basis. It pays to be flexible when it comes to the price, location, and available facilities of your accommodation. Student Services Erlangen-Nürnberg runs its own student accommodation in Erlangen and Nuremberg. You will be informed about how to apply for a room in Student Services accommodation while you are in the process of applying to be admitted to FAU.
University of Technology Nuremberg

Accommodation in big cities such as Nuremberg can be scarce, especially in the weeks leading up to a new semester. To improve your chances of finding a suitable and affordable place to stay, it is recommended to start your search early and consider nearby areas as well. The well-connected public transport system of the region ensures easy access to your place of study or work, even if you live outside the city centre. Student dormitories offer affordable, furnished rooms exclusively for students, with rents ranging from 200 to 600 EUR per month, depending on the provider and facilities, though waiting lists can be long. Shared apartments ("WGs" in German) provide a social atmosphere with reduced rent through shared living spaces, with monthly costs typically between 250 EUR and 500 EUR. Renting your own apartment offers privacy and flexibility, with prices ranging widely based on size and location, from around 500 EUR to over 1,000 EUR per month. For short-term stays or an initial solution, subleases or temporary accommodations (such as Airbnb or furnished rentals) can be convenient, with sublease rents similar to shared apartment prices and temporary rentals often costing significantly more (700+ EUR per month).
